Match Report

Menai Bridge 58 - 0 Llandudno 2nds. It was a very good day at the office for Menai Bridge after a two week lay off for the 6 nations matches. Bridge played well in attack and defence and the whole squad contributed to the win. In all Bridge managed ten tries with Gruff Davies and Ed Williams each getting a brace. There was a nice variation of sweeping moves, direct running and forward grunt to cross the line. Unusually four of the conversion attempts hit the woodwork. Llandudno had their best period in the second quarter of the first half, where they pressed hard for a try close to the Bridge line. Despite their long visit to the home 22 Llandudno could not find a way through the solid defence. Of the tries scored Ed Williams's scrum half effort deserves a mention. When a ball spilled out of the Dudno scrum on half way, he scooped it up, chipped over the defence and ran on to his own kick, outsprinting the scramble defence for a score under the posts. To top it off he also converted. Although not on the score sheet, Pat Roberts ran the show from ten, putting his backs in space and keeping the opposition defence honest with probes of his own.In the forwards Gerwyn Morris shone with his ball carrying and dancing feet. Always eager to support he had an outstanding match. In truth the whole team made a significant contribution, which leave them atop Division 3, with Bro hot on their heels and with games in hand. If Bridge can maintain this form, it will be an interesting end of season run in.
