North Wales Cup

Porthmadog 5 - 13 Menai Bridge.

Conditions were wet and windy for Bridge's first trip to Port's homeground in many a year. Both teams struggled with the conditions and a wet pitch and lashing rain made handling difficult. Despite playing into the conditions Bridge had better posession in the first half and were rewarded with two penalties, one for number eight Gareth Parry and one for fly half Pat Roberts. At the close of the half Bridge thought they had got over the line as Rhys Thomas reached for a try, but a double movement was penalised and the half closed at 6 to nil for Bridge. In the second half some good interplay between Pat Roberts , eight Tino Williams and full back Dan Hughes broke the stubborn Port defence and Hughes scored, converted by Roberts. Port rallied and used their forward drives to claw back a try and get themselves back in the game. Number eight Tino Williams continued to impress in what was a man of the match performance, carrying strongly from the back of the scrum. Despite their best efforts neither team manged any further score and the final whistle was a welcome relief. Bridge will host Denbigh II at home in the next round.
