Match report: Flint 10 - 19 Menai Bridge

With both sides enjoying a good run of form, this was going to be a very competitive match and the two teams certainly gave their all in a feisty encounter.

Flint were first on the scoreboard early on. Winger Harry Nield was first to the ball chasing a chip to the try line and touched down.

Bridge fought their way upfield and were awarded a penalty. Scrum half Ed Williams took a quick tap and caught the defence napping. He charged up the wing and was supported by winger Logan Jones, who found top gear to round the scrambling defence for his try, to tie the score at 5 all.

Flint bounced  back and from a line out on the Bridge 22 spread the ball across field to Harry Nield who went over in the corner. There was no further score in the first half as illdiscipline set in with both sides. Bridge finishing the half with two players in the bin.

Coach Keith Withers steadied the ship at half time and the second half started with a much more focussed Bridge side. A clever kick from midfield chipped over the Flint defence and Logan Jones latched on to the ball racing over for a try. Dion McGrath converted to give Bridge the lead for the first time in the match.

From the restart the Bridge forwards raced upfield supporting and offloading well. Quick ball was moved to centre Dave Williams who picked his spot and sliced through the defence for a try. McGrath converted and extended the lead to 19-10. Bridge were able to hold on to the lead to the death, soaking up Flint's attacks with solid defence, for a hard fought win.
