Match Report: Menai Bridge 45 - 17 Rhos

Bridge bounced back from last week's home defeat to Machynlleth and secured a bonus point win against visitors Rhos.

The opening try was clever play by fly half Dion McGrath. When a penalty was awarded to Bridge on the edge of the Rhos 22, he spotted the narrow defence and kicked across field to right wing Logan Jones, who gathered and went over for a try. A further try was scored by prop Adam Goodwin as Bridge got their passing game going and Goodwin was rewarded for excellent support play. The half closed at 12 to 0 for Bridge.

The second half was a much higher scoring spectacle. Rhos tenaciously fought back and looked dangerous whenever they managed to get into attacking territory. A well worked phase of play sucked in the Bridge defence to leave an overlap for wing Simon Hughes to score in his corner.

Bridge replied soon after through centre Dave Williams, who was on thrilling form all afternoon. From a scrum, the ball was fed along the back line to Williams who split the Rhos defence and, once through, left the cover tacklers in his wake for a superb try. At this stage Bridge were enjoying good periods of posession and territory and, once again, Adam Goodwin popped up to,power over for the bonus point try.

Rhos still looked dangerous when they attacked and no 8 Jack Morris crashed over for a try to narrow the gap.

Another attacking scrum for Bridge saw the ball moved along the back line to Logan Jones who scored on his wing. From the restart Bridge attacked again, and this time Bridge 8 Gerwyn Morris went over. Although Bridge were extending their lead Rhos still dug in and Mike Muia crossed for a try.

The game closed with a hat trick try for wing Logan Jones, who topped off a great afternoon's work with a blistering run down his wing for a touch dow. The conversion was slotted by McGrath for a final score of 45-17.

Bridge will enjoy the Christmas break in preparation for the island Derby at Holyhead on the 28th, which should be a festive cracker.
