Match Report - Holyhead 7 - 38 Menai Bridge

Hat trick hero Goodwin inspires away win.

It was a bonus point win on the road for Bridge in the Anglesey derby. Thanks in no small part to a hat trick of tries from prop Adam Goodwin and the 100% conversion rate of scrum half Gruff Davies.

Bridge had the upper hand in the scrums, which laid the foundation for this win. After a cagey first ten minutes Davies opened the scoring when Bridge took a kick at goal to capitalise on their pressure and territory.  Brother Steffan then scored a lovely try, slicing the home defence with a run from deep.

When Bridge were awarded a penalty close to the Holyhead line, Goodwin took a quick tap to score his first.

The second half started with a bang for Bridge, another try from Goodwin, who was proving to be a handful for the Holyhead defence. The bit was truly between his teeth as he crashed over for his third , with a stirring challenge to the opposition.

Indiscipline crept into the match and Holyhead numbers were reduced. Captain Dave Williams capitalised with an incisive run for his try.

Holyhead finished the match well and scored a deserved try as Mei Parry ran a hard straight line to breach the Bridge defence.

Bridge will be well pleased with what was their best performance of the season so far. It’s a home match next Saturday against Rhyl and District. Kick off 14:30.
