The opening game of the season was a home win for Bridge against their old rivals Port, now back in the league.
A tight first half was dominated by both team’s defence, neither being able to make a breakthrough. Bridge edged territorial advantage and Port were forced into conceding penalties. The ever dependable Dion McGrath slotted two for the home side for a 6 to nil half time advantage.
It was more of the same in the second half, however Port’s efforts took their toll and as the game opened up Bridge were able to take advantage. Veteran second row Gareth Parry was rewarded with a try for his fierce work rate and the try of the match was scored by Captain Dave Williams. From an attacking scrum, Ryan Jackson at nine fed the ball to Williams on the burst, who cut through the defence for a peach of a try. McGrath added the conversion for a final score of 21 to nil.
Next week Bridge travel to Caernarfon for their first away match of the season.
Training is on Tuesday and Thursday at 7pm and new players are always welcome.
