Match report: Menai Bridge 33 - 5 Wrexham 2nds

Bridge started the new year with a bonus point win at home. On their last outing in Holyhead they failed to score and had already lost twice to Wrexham this season, so the prospects were for a tricky fixture to negotiate. Indeed the match started with neither side able to convert any territory into points and Wrexham enjoying good possession.

Things changed around half way into the first half, when lively winger Logan Jones got on the end of a pass to round off a fluent attacking move. Some 5 minutes later centre Dave Williams increased the Bridge lead with a try of his own. Bridge were now on a roll and a further try for Jones and one for the forwards brought up the bonus point before half time at 26 to nil.

Bridge looked to cut loose in the second half and started well when fly half McGrath ghosted through the Wrexham defence for the fifth try, which he converted. The early promise for the home side failed to convert into any further tries, as Bridge were guilty of trying to play too much rugby and Wrexham were too well organised to breach. The visitors had some good moments in the second half and were ready to attack from anywhere. They were finally rewarded with a consolation try scored by Owen Weston.

Bridge welcome Mold 2nds to Llyn Y Felin next week and will hope to build on their first win of the decade.
