Match report: Menai Bridge 18 - 15 Shotton

Following last week's defeat at Flint, Bridge welcomed table topping Shotton to Llyn Y Felin. The pundits predicted an away win, reflecting the team's table positions, however Bridge defied expectations to gain a hard fought home win.

Bridge opened the scoring with a Gareth Parry penalty. Shotton soon replied when lively winger Sean Kemp crossed for a try that went unconverted. Shotton were gaining the upper hand and were rewarded with a try from a quick tap penalty for scrum half Adam Lynskey. Bridge, however, were still in the game and a further Gareth Parry penalty closed the gap to 6-10. The half ended with Bridge pressing the Shotton line, only for the solid defence to hold out and hold up Bridge over the try line.

The second half started with further pressure from Bridge, who sensed that the win was there to grab. An injury held up play whilst a Shotton player received medical treatment. At the restart Bridge shoved the Shotton scrum over the line and Chris Roberts scored from number eight. Bridge applied further pressure and were rewarded with a try for centre Dave Williams, converted by Parry to extend the lead to 18-10. Shotton fought back and closed the gap with a  Rob Middleton try. Bridge closed the game with a penalty attempt that shaded wide. The match ended at 18 -15 giving Shotton a losing bonus point.

Bridge take on local rivals Bangor next week, with an early kick off at Cae Milltir in a Gwynedd Cup match.
