Match Report: Menai Bridge 27 - 33 Machynlleth

On a fine spring afternoon both teams enjoyed the conditions and served up a thoroughly entertaining match that ebbed and flowed from first to last.

Mach started well and laid siege to Bridge's try line. A lengthy period of solid defence from the home side managed to contain the visitors to a successful penalty kick. Bridge then gained field position and good attacking ball which led to a fine try for winger Gryffudd Davies. Bridge maintained the pressure and, from a 5 metre scrum, Mach were unable to keep out Number 8 Chris Roberts who plunged over for a try. The conversion was slotted by Dion McGrath and Bridge looked comfortable with a 12 to 3 lead. Mach had other ideas and fought back with three tries. Gerwyn Coleman took the ball up the middle for his try, and a Bridge mix-up presented an opportunity for Kameron Sandys to race away from the halfway line for his try. Ryan Blackley was  next on the scoreboard and the converted try was the final score of the half with Mach leading at 20 points to 12.

Bridge regrouped at half time and an attack in midfield led to a Dave Williams try. Mach replied with a Thomas Ifan try and further extended their lead to 30 points. Gareth Parry scored a converted try for Bridge to close the gap and McGrath took a penalty to close the Mach lead down to six points. Despite Bridge's efforts at the close they couldn't create another score and had to settle for a losing bonus point and another for four tries. Mach deservedly took 5 points from the match, a fitting reward for their decisive threatening back play.
