Menai Bridge 14 - 22 COBRA (WRU Bowl - Round 1)

COBRA will progress to the next round of the WRU Bowl, however it was not an easy passage for the visitors to Llyn Y Felin. The opening exchanges of the match favoured Bridge in terms of possession, but the COBRA defence suffocated the home team. At 20 minutes in, COBRA scored their first points with a penalty. This was followed by a converted try from a lineout move for COBRA which gave a 10 to nil lead at the half.

The second half continued in much the same fashion, with both team's defences on top. It was fitting that the first score came from a charge down of a kick. Dion McGrath pressurised a clearing kick, knocked it down, chipped ahead and managed downward pressure for a score under the sticks, which he converted.

Bridge were enjoying their best period of the game and were rewarded, when quick ball was created by number 8 Sam Williams, who coolly put Lewis Harrison in space, for a run to the line. McGrath converted and Bridge were ahead for the first time in the match at 14 - 10. COBRA then rolled up their sleeves and used their forward power to claim an excellent try for their number 8, which pushed the score to 14 -15 in favour of the visitors.

With the match in the balance, COBRA were able to control the possession and pounced on a loose pass on the try line to score a try. The try was converted, giving a final score of 14 - 22.

COBRA will be happy to progress and Bridge will take solace from their contribution to a hard fought contest.
