The Division 3 North Anglesey derby lived up to expectations and a large crowd enjoyed a hugely physical contest. Holyhead enjoyed the better start and, playing with a blustery wind to their backs, pinning Bridge down in their own half. Having probed the defence for a sustained period, the home side were rewarded with a try for full back Ben Jordan who found a large hole in the three quarter defence. The conversion was missed and Bridge played their way into the game through their forwards. Despite a number of attacking incursions the home side 's defence held firm. Holyhead enjoyed the better of the territory but were unable to add to their score before half time.
At 5-0 it was all to play for at the beginning of the second half. Bridge used the conditions to set up a 10 metre line out, which they duly won and drove the home pack backwards in the subsequent maul for a try. McGrath slotted the conversion for a 5 - 7 lead to the Bridge. Two long range penalties from McGrath just missed their mark and, with time ticking away, Holyhead's home winning record looked in danger. In the final minutes of the match Holyhead won a 5 metre penalty after a number of forward surges. A quick tap penalty allowed Maguire to crash over for a try and the conversion took the game beyond Bridge for a final score of 12 - 7. Photo by Phil Hen.
